영어로 길게 말하기는 정말 어려운 것일까? 이 책은 절대 그렇지 않다고 단언한다. 특히 영어로 길게 말하기는 더더욱 쉽다. 아니, 영어이기 때문에 쉬운 것이다. 우리말로 길게 말하기는 어렵다. 결론을 맨 마지막에 말하기 때문이다. 하지만 영어는 결론을 먼저 말한다. 그리고 그 위에 원하는 만큼만 꼬리를 붙인다.
꼬리를 붙이다가 원하지 않으면 그만 둬도 상관이 없다. 그게 영어다. 그렇기 때문에 영어는 길게 말하기가 쉽다. 오히려 짧게 말하기가 더 어렵다. 영어는 길게 말하기 위해 만들어진 언어라고 해도 과언이 아니다. 그렇다면 이 책이 말하는 단 한가지 기술이란 무엇일까? 그것은 결론에 해당하는 내용을 먼저 말하고 그 뒤에 꼬리를 붙이는 습관이다. 이 책을 통해 오늘부터 길게 말하는 연습을 해보자. 자신감있게 술술 말하는 자신을 발견할 수 있게 될 것이다.
대학 때 영어를 전공하고 대학원에서는 경영학 수업을 들었지만, 영어에 대한 꿈을 접지 못해 어떻게 하면 영어를 쉽고 재미있게 가르칠까 고민하던 중 영어 강사의 길로 들어서게 되었다. 종로 YBM ELS 어학원 강사로 활동했으며 2001, 2006, 2007 영어회화 수강생 수 전국 1위를 기록했다.
